Killer Phone Calls

Seriously. This has been stuck in my craw for a couple of months now. I thought I could just let it go, but I can’t. Mainly because this could potentially cost someone their life and I can’t live with that possibility so I have to do what I can to get the word out about this.

I had a caller that tied up my only phone for about an hour before Continue reading

Whistle While You Work…

When I was a kid I used to love that first week of summer vacation. It was the best of all the weeks of the year. Even though I missed my friends at school and my friends on the bus there were things that I only got to experience fully during that first few days of summer vacation and that made that week so special.

We lived at the top of a long hill. Even most of the back yard was downhill. Down the hill from us on the other side of the house, was a barn full of smallish wooden crates (that we used to play in even though we were told repeatedly not to) Continue reading

StoRies

You can’t know what you don’t know. I live by those words.

And I also am a firm believer in speaking positive words to people. I think it helps them reach their full potential.

I know that I have been blessed with a lot of people who tell me how smart I am. Today, I think I learned that maybe that isn’t such a good thing either (I am chuckling as I write that.) Late this morning I decided, after only about an hour of research, that I was smart enough to set up a website on Continue reading

Old Dog, New Tricks…or…grrrrr

Kalamazoo Tragedy-Uber Driver Shooter

In light of the horrendous tragedy in Kalamazoo Michigan this weekend, my original post has been delayed for another time. I spent many hours Saturday night and early Sunday morning in tears with my heart aching for all those involved in this tragedy. I cried for those who were involved, for the moments that they were in fear before they crossed over, for the anguish they knew as they watched someone they loved being murdered Continue reading

Boston Brown Bread

There are certain things that I associate with comfort on a cold winter’s night…or day for that matter…and one of those is a hot cup of coffee or tea with a slice (or two) of Boston Brown Bread slathered with either sweet cream butter or cream cheese (or both, you’ll recognize the bitter cold and blowing that will make the extra fats palatable and even desirable)…this one, however, sounded like something I might like to try and I thought maybe you would too.

Again, this is from my friend’s book “Buckeye Cookery and Practical Housekeeping…” which has a really large section on bread.

So…Boston Brown Bread the way our ancestors did it in the 1880’s…I haven’t tried it yet, so if you get around to it before I do, please let us all know how it was and if we need to change anything for better results. t/y Continue reading

Ambushed Asparagus!

Maybe you’ve heard of this? Not I, and it made me chuckle when I read it. A patch of beautiful green, growing asparagus and me, sneaking up behind it so it wouldn’t see me coming with my garden shears….

From my newly favorite old book…(see my post ‘Kids’) comes the following Continue reading
